A China-based web news service reports today that as many as 1.8 million iPads will no longer be shipped, as the result of supply chain issues related to the explosion three days ago at the Foxconn Technology plant, in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, southwest China. The news comes on the day Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., LTD announced production of its polishing workshops in Mainland China has been suspended. The explosion left three people dead and wounded another 15.
China's CCIDnet.com cites unnamed IT sources as saying that the shutdown of Hon Hai's polishing plant will have a "deadly impact" on Hon Hai, itself, which delivered 1.6-million iPad 2's from January to April.
Meanwhile, a less-alarming report from iSuppli reports a decline in production of only 500,000 units, through the end of June 2011.
